National WWII Museum - New Orleans, Louisiana
National WWII Museum - New Orleans, Louisiana
As the official World War II museum of the country this fabulous attraction illuminates the American experience during the era when life was so very difficult for so many. There are moving personal stories of the life of the people, historic artifacts and powerful interactive displays.
Take the trip from the Normandy invasion to the sands of Pacific Islands and of course, the home front in this museum. Regardless of where you were, or the history you want to study and keep fresh in your mind, the museum will take you through these troubling times and show you the spirit of the American people and soldiers that dedicated their lives to save our freedom and the freedom of those they served with from other countries. The sacrifices, the courage, the teamwork, the optimism that are displayed at the museum come to life as you visit the museum.
The museum is staffed with WWII veteran volunteers to take you on the journey. We owe these brave men and women so much, don't forget to say thank you!
The National World War II Museum features permanent exhibitions showcasing the nations road to war. Included in the permanent display is the famous Higgins landing craft. There were more than 20,000 boats designed and built in New Orleans and used in all amphibious landings of the war. The President, Dwight Eisenhower, stated that these boats won the war for the Allies. There is also a Sherman tank, jeeps, halftracks and fully restored C-47.
The displays in the galleries (permanent) are on the second and third floor of the museum and divided into four areas: The Home Front, Planning for D-Day, The D-Day Beaches and the D-Day Invasions in the Pacific.
There are featured films focusing on the D-Day invasions for you to watch in the Malcolm S. Forbes Theater showing the invasions of Normandy and in the Pacific, The Price for Peace and D-Day Remembered.
The museum also holds a wide display of military uniforms, weaponry, medals, artwork and personal items of the war including photos, correspondence and mementos. There are more than are currently on display which will go into future exhibits.
If you have articles that you believe would benefit the museum contact them about donating them to the museum.

I loved the museum.
Just wanted to comment on what was disappointing, there was no discount rate for Disabled Veterans.
Why would Disabled Vets be excluded?
