New Orleans Has It All

New Orleans is known for Mardi Gras, their infamous Saints and nightlife that never stops.  But there is more to this beautiful city than just beads, football and dancing.  New Orleans is also home to many fine restaurants, excellent colleges and fun parks and zoos.

If you want to taste the most mouthwatering food you have ever tasted, walk into Mr. B’s Bistro in the French Quarter.  Of course you will need a reservation first, because this famous place is known by many in the city for its exquisite dining.  Tourists alike are very familiar with the bistro, which is why it has become a well known attraction in the city.  Built in 1979, Mr. B’s has taken Creole food to a whole new level.  While eating your delicious meal, you will also be entertained by live piano music.  Coming here is more than just eating.

Loyola University and Tulane University are neighboring colleges that are located in the heart of the city.  Take a streetcar down St. Charles Avenue to visit these two side by side campuses.  Those that attend one can often be found strolling on the other campus to visit friends and attend each other’s functions.  When traveling to New Orleans, make sure to stop by these campuses.  The architecture of Loyola University is one reason to visit.  The campus is beautiful and you will enjoy the talent of the men’s basketball team, track and cross country and the women’s volleyball team.

Walk right next door and visit the Tulane campus.  They too are performing well in their athletic department.  Baseball, track and field and football are well known sports played at the campus.  Check their athletic schedule to make sure you don’t miss out what is going on at Tulane when you get into town.

After you have taken in a game at one of the colleges, jump on the streetcar and go down to New Orleans City Park.  With 1,300 hundred acres of park, you are sure to find something to do there.  Children will love the antique carousel that has been giving children rides since 1906.  It is the last wooden carousel in the state and one of only 100 in the country.   The Botanical Gardens is a beautiful part of the park that originally opened in 1936.  After extensive damage done by Hurricane Katrina, the gardens are now reopened and as beautiful as ever.

City Park is also known for its recreational activities.  Whether you play tennis, soccer, golf or just like to lounge around, the park is the perfect place for this.  Bring your family and your Frisbee and plan on spending a fun filled day at City Park.  Don’t forget to pack a picnic lunch.  You may want to bring your leftovers from Mr. B’s.  New Orleans has it all.
