Take in the Beauty of the American Rose Society, Home of the American Rose Center. Located just west of Shreveport, Louisiana is one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world. Located on 42 acres, the Gardens of the American Rose Center is a part of the American Rose Society. Founded in 1892, the American Rose Society is the" largest single-plant society" in the United States.
The American Rose Center is the largest park dedicated to roses and boasts more than 20,000 different varieties of rose spread through 60 individual gardens. You can walk along the beautifully landscaped paths that wind through the gardens and past small, gushing streams to take in all of the different, beautiful roses on the grounds.
In the 60 plus individual gardens, you will be able to see any type of rose that you can imagine, from miniature roses and single petal roses to antique roses and celebrity roses. Every color of rose in existence is on display here, and anyone with even a slight interest in botany, as well as anyone who loves roses, will have a great time touring the Gardens.
For those who want to learn more about the roses, or those who don’t want to hike all across the 42 acres the Garden encompasses, guided cart tours are available. These tours will take guests throughout the park and amidst all of the different gardens, detailing the various types of rose.
The Gardens are open seven days a week from April 1 through October 31, when the flowers are in bloom. However, different events are happening at the American Rose Center all of the time. For example, there is the October Harvest Moon Stroll and Christmas in Roseland.
A trip to the American Rose Center is a wonderful and relaxing way to spend a few hours. The Gardens not only look beautiful, but they smell divine as well! It is a fun and romantic place to take a stroll and you can learn quite a bit about roses and the best ways to grow them yourself.
Hours of operation and admission fees can differ depending on the time of year. In general, admission for adults is $4, seniors are $3, and children 12 and under are free.
