North Louisiana Military Museum – Ruston, Louisiana

Learn the History of Warfare at the North Louisiana Military Museum. The North Louisiana Military Museum, which is located in Ruston, Louisiana, is home to more than 150 years of military history. The museum was even recently added to the Secretary of State’s museum division.

The North Louisiana Military Museum has artifacts from many of America’s major conflicts including the Spanish American War, the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, the Vietnam conflict, Desert Storm, and even through to today’s global war on terror.

Visitors to the museum will be able to see quite a few different types of artifacts, from weapons and vehicles to flags and patches. One can find just about everything at this museum. You can also see artillery pieces on the museum grounds.

The weapons are some of the most popular exhibits on the grounds, and you can see everything from swords and muskets to the modern automatic weapons that are a part of today’s warfare.

You can also see uniforms from different wars and conflicts to see how the dress of American soldiers and their enemies have changed through the years. You will be amazed at the differences in battle dress uniforms of the Confederate soldiers from the civil war to the warriors fighting terrorism today.

Other items in the museum that is very popular are the personal items from soldiers and sailors who served through many of the conflicts. Some of these personal items include diaries, bibles, medals and various other pieces. This section is what helps to humanize the soldiers and explain the battles they fought and the things they saw.

Some of the standout personal items are a flight jacket, which was donated by the son of a pilot who was reported as lost in Vietnam.  The jacket was the only item that was returned to the family after the war. Another item is a medal, whose reasoning is somewhat strange. The medal was awarded to a woman in Germany for bearing a large number of sons.
